About iPhone OS 4.0 / iOS 4
On 21 June, 2010 the new OS 4.0 for the iPhone was released.
In this release, Apple has changed the API (Application Programming Interface, the library software developers can use to write applications) and unfortunately, BabyPhone Deluxe is not re-activating itself after this first call anymore.
We have tried re-writing the code for several weeks using the beta versions of OS 4.0. We have contacted the Apple engineers. We have used the multitasking features of the new OS 4.0. Unfortunately, there is no way to make the reactivation work under OS 4.0.
What does that mean for you? After you upgrade to OS 4.0 you can use BabyPhone Deluxe in a limited way. This means that you have to make sure directly after the first call that your child is doing fine, and restart the application manually. Before manually re-starting the app you need to terminate the BabyPhone Deluxe process completely over the Task Manager by doubble clicking on the Home Button, clicking on the app for 2 seconds until you see a minus, click on the minus and click again on the Home Button.
As soon as we have news, we will update you.
What you can do
If you feel that BabyPhone Deluxe should function as it used to do in the OS 3.1.x versions you can contact Apple on http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html. This webpage has a feedback form where you can send your comments to Apple.
We suggest the following text:
"I am using BabyPhone Deluxe as a baby monitoring application. In OS 3.1.x, the application works as expected: it calls a configured number when my baby starts to make noise. After hanging up the phone, the application re-activates itself and starts monitoring again. In OS 4.0 however, the phone shows the "dialed numbers" panel and the babyphone deluxe app doesn't return to the foreground.
What we do
We have logged bug reports and enhancement requests ourselves. We monitor the further development of the iPhone OS closely and will release a new version of BabyPhone Deluxe as soon as this behaviour has been changed.
Our influence on Apple Inc. is limited however, so we highly appreciate your help and understanding in this case.
